Teen advice: How to get a summer job
44
Want to know the best way to have a job right through summer? Have a job during the winter. Annoying, I know, since you really only want to work when it's summer - there's no school, you've got nothing to do during the day, and (most importantly) you need some cash! But the sad fact is - you and everyone else your age is trying to get that elusive summer job.
So you need to start early. Apply for a job earlier in the year. Once you've proven that you're a good employee, they'll be sure to keep you during the busy summer period. What's more, you'll probably be given a more senior role once the summer rush hits, since you'll be experienced by then and the newbies will need supervising. Senior role -> more hours -> MORE MONEY.
The other plus is that your employer will probably require less hours during the quieter months. So you'll be able to keep your job without sacrificing your school work and hobbies. Anyone hiring a teen must be mindful of your overriding duty to your schoolwork, so a good employer will be understanding, especially when it comes to your exams.
Then after your exams - you've got a well-established job to continue with.
